Miller's Marsh is named after Harrison "Tip" Miller.  Mr. Miller was a follower of Strang and was one of the few who remained on the island after the Mormon exodus.  He became the fourth keeper of the South Head Lighthouse and was the first chief of the life-saving station at the harbor.

Central Michigan University owns and manages Miller's Marsh Natural Area.  This marsh wetlands combines open shallow water, extensive sedge meadows, and surrounding Beech-Maple forest.  If you like walking, take the Miller's Marsh Hiking Trail.
