This is also home to the Beaver Island Lighthouse School started 17 years ago. A school for troubled teens, the Lighthouse School teaches in a one on one atmosphere with plenty of hands-on and tough love. Teachers and students live and work together here and play an active part in the island community. The students built the graceful stairs leading from the tower to the beach as one of their projects.
