This is the largest of the seven inland lakes on the island. The Mormons named it Geneserath after the New Testament name for the Sea of Galilee. During the time of Strang on Beaver Island, there were three townships; St. James, Peanine, and Galilee. The township of Galilee was dissolved many years ago. This is just a tiny portion of Lake Geneserath taken from the boat launching site. Several homes and summer cabins are found around the lake. This is a good fishing spot both in the summer and in the winter months when you'll see ice shanties dotting the lake. This is the deepest lake on the island, measuring 50 feet in places. This lake contains: small mouth bass, blue gill, sun fish and northern pike. |
