This isn't a river like you all have on the mainland, but it's big for the island.... although there are times when it's completely dry. This is one of the places where we all come to get smelt in the spring, or if the smelt aren't running, to get a fish called a sucker, which can be smoked or canned. A beautiful little stream, it runs out of the woods and under the East Side Drive and on out to Lake Michigan. Winds and amount of water flowing make the creeks entrance into the big lake move to various sites. Sometimes it runs straight out and at others, it meanders along parallel to the beach. |
