Holy Cross Cemetery
Although this island cemetery is the largest it is not the oldest, that designation goes to the St. James Township Cemetery located within the harbor district.
Named Holy Cross Cemetery, burials here are not restricted to only those of the Catholic faith. There are many of the Protestant faith interred here also. A recent addition to this cemetery is the huge wooden cross built by master craftsman, and island resident, Dan Gentle. It is set in a base created by Ray Matela. It was commemorated in a multi-denominational service held at the end of July 2002.
